This ageing, slightly rundown building is a magnet for expats and fashionable Singaporeans and a great place for an aimless browse among the arts, handicrafts, gifts, homewares and fashion outlets. Then top it off at one of the massage, reflexology or beauty salons on level three for a little pampering afterwards.

Lim's Arts & Living (01, level two) is a virtual encyclopaedia of home furnishing, from kitsch model ships to classy Middle Eastern and Asian-style lamps and chests. Island & Archipelago (05, level two) has interesting retro, beachy-style dresses, while EMF (24, level two) has a large selection of second-hand books for sale, rent or trade. Framing Angie (02, level three) is a classy art gallery that'll also do a great job of framing pictures. For some beautiful and unusual wooden pots and vases, take a look at Mango Wood Crafts (08, level three).
