Lonely Planet review

According to Roland, it was his mum, Mrs Lim, who invented Singapore's iconic chilli crab back in the 1950s. Decades on, Roland has his own giant restaurant, with a chilli crab that lures former prime minister Goh Chok Tong on National Day. The crabs are fleshy and sweet and the gravy milder than many of its competitors: good news if you're not a big spice fan.

Kick start your meal with an order of the delicious steamed golden beancurd – tender beancurd filled with crab and shrimp paste and topped with salted egg yolk. The restaurant is tucked away at the top of a carpark.
