Balestier Rd is famous for bakeries that peddle tau sar piah, a snack-friendly, Hokkien-style pastry filled with salty or sweet bean paste. Loong Fatt is the oldest and fairest of them all, a place that still makes its tau sar piah by hand and that bakes them in old-fashioned ovens.
