328 Katong Laksa

The first thing you noticed when you walked into this simple eatery (a choice of slurpy time in air-conditioned comfort or go al-fresco by the sidewalk) is the famed faces of local celebs and those in the region plastered on the white-tiled walls with the red-haired Laksa matriarch. 
 
It is a testament of the prowess of this Singapore dish. Packing a punch in flavour with spicy chilli paste and fragrant laksa leaves drizzled over firm springy noodles, The red and orangey swirls looking soup broth is so tasty that you will lick every last drop of it.
 
Laska noodles are sliced short so you can scoop it up together with the coconutty spicy soup broth for an orgasmic explosion when shoved into your mouth. Fresh prawns, shellfish (you can request for a non-shellfish bowl if you are not a fan) and fishcake add much texture and flavours to the whole experience.

Katong Laksa....its the stuff I dream about.  For the uninitiated in Katong Laksa, forget everything you thought you knew about laksa.  Katong Laksa does not resemble those other types and I might add nowhere near as delicious laksas.  Having grown up on the stuff then been ripped away (ie. moved overseas), I make an effort every trip to Singapore to try as many of the so-called "authentic" and "orginal" Katong Laksas in Katong.  I can definitely endorse 328 Katong Laksa as yummy, mouthwatering, delicious and certainly authentic.  In terms of being the original, the claims of originality are promoted by all the hawkers and coffee-shop owners, but who knows.  The creamy flavour of the soup and the beautiful tanginess of the laksa dish combine to hit the spot and satisfy any foodie's tastebuds.  I would suggest that Singapore should think of making Katong Laksa its national dish.  
As with any local coffee-shop, ambience, atmosphere and service tend to be somewhat lacking by Western restuarant standards.  However I don't think this should detract in any way.  Service is certainly prompt.  Your food will arrive within minutes and your order is quickly taken.  Who needs fancy tablecloths and fakely polite snobby waiters?  This place will give anyone an authentic experience of Singaporean coffee shop/hawker eating.  Its clean, has a air-conditioned section, quick and cheap!  For less than $5 you can have your meal, drink and have change to spare.  Its hugely popular, but don't despair if all the tables are full when you get there.  Turnover is fast.  A short wait (yes, standing over people) will procure you in table within minutes.

Katong Lasksa is the best in singapore. The gravy is thick and delicious and the noodle is cooked just not too soft and is really really very yummy.

Away from the laksa war zone nearer to joo chiat, I get to eat my laksa in peace here. To be honest, everyone claims they are the authentic one but what the hell they all taste the same.... My mum did mention that the one under the bridge is the original one but the old guys from her era were gone a long time already and before she turned vegetarian it had all gone down the drain... so just take all the claims of whoever is authentic with a pinch of salt. 

As I said laksa is about the same as all the rest of the stalls further up the street but peaceful and easier to get PARKING (damn important)... Kopitiam so don't expect much ambience or service here

I believe most people in singapore all tried the laska at this place before. Why? simple. the food is good. The service is excellent for a small shop and they try their best to make surrounding comfortable enough for their customers by providing airconditioning indoor.
What's make the 328 becoming a mark in singapore must try food?? i will say it's the "just use spoon" to eat laska.. of course if you request for the chopsticks.. they will still provide them to you. The best part of the laska is the chilli which you can add to your own suit... added sweet and spice to the laska.. amazing it will make the soup thicker and better yet not as spicy as it looks... another item that must go with the laska is the "Otha". the soft and tender meat of fish unlike some other places which is hard and dry. on top of that order a glass of lime juice to compete the meal..And while eating, take time to look at their "victory wall" with all the stars from around asia that went to their place for the laska..  highly recomended. 

P.S : their home make nasi lemak wrap in banana leaf also a must try.

Laksa is unique to this part of the world. This dish of rice noodle soup is made from Laksa leaves. In Singapore, there are basically two variations to this dish. Katong Laksa is one of them (it is eaten with only a Chinese soup spoon, unlike its other variant where Chopsticks are used), and is served in the many eateries found in Katong.

328 Katong Laksa is one of the few successful restaurants in the area, though its claim to being the original is debatable, its formula of consistency in taste and speedy service, throughout its many outlets, is not. These days, its Laksa caters to the taste of the younger clientele, and in my view, is not as fragrant or as spicy as before. Its servings are not huge, but 328 Laksa is a good introduction for any visitor to the Laksa dish. It is usually busy during breakfast and the lunch hours, but its efficient staff will usually find you a table.
