Yum Cha Restaurant

OOK a review on this joint is long overdue, given that i was impressed the first time i went, then blown away (in a really bad way) the second time round. Thus i'd say my reviewer rating is a combi of both experiences. hrm..

let's start with the food. 
if you've read my dragon gate restaurant review, you'd know i compared both the dimsum buffets, and each have their strengths. 

for yumcha, the variety is delightful. i love that they offer stuff like double boiled soups, fried dishes and a good selection of desserts, of which the mango pudding deserves special mention. Tangy, smooth, with cubes of fresh mango and topped with a dollop of creamy evaporated milk.. what's not to like? i typically eat at least 3 by myself whenever im here for the buffet.

that aside, the items deserving mention are their prawn dumplings (hargau) lotus leaf glutinous rice, fried coral clams and fried durian in some crispy skin. (yes fried durian)

the prawns in the hargau are really fresh, and the dumpling skin has a texture that's just right.

the glutinous rice is also done just right, where the rice is tender and sticky without being overly chewly, and generously studded with meat and salted egg

"Yum Cha" in cantonese dialect means "drink tea" literally, but it has come to mean having Dim Sum. Located right in the heart of Chinatown, it's attracts unknowing tourists to its Dim Sum buffet. 

Its rude staff fills your table with dishes which you didn't order at a pace that suits them. The food is either heavily salted or bland. 

This is a restaurant that should be avoided. There are better Dim Sum places in the vicinity.
