Killiney Kopitiam

The original and the best of the Killiney's. My recommendation: kaya* toast with coffee, and if you're into it, two runny eggs to top it off. Fine for any time of the day...actually ideal for a short break after a frenetic shopping spree on Orchard Road just a stone's throw away.

* Kaya is a local jam made from eggs, coconut and fragrant screwpine.

How true. And nothing makes me ram up my horns like a cup of coffee and toast to get the day running. 

With a history that dates back to an era where policemen in Singapore were donning shorts as their attire, Killiney Kopitiam is a trusted coffee haven for many. The first thing you notice when you walked in (besides being mobbed by the wafts of roasted coffee beans and Kaya (a concoction of pandan juice, coconut amongst other ingredients), is the humble furniture and the walls plastered with framed reports of the renowned coffee and toast’s history and thumbs-up from locals and overseas patrons. 

Grab a seat and be sure to order a cup of coffee (locals called it Kopi). You can choose to have it thick (kopi-gao), less sugar (kopi-siu-dai), more sugar (kopi-ga-dai) or with carnation milk (kopi-c) and the kaya toast.   

When your order arrives, bite into the warm sun-kissed toast slathered in dense kaya and a slab of butter. Wash it down in between sips of your coffee. For a more aromatic authentic taste (that’s what the kopi connoisseurs claim), swirl the smooth brown liquid in the saucer and drink up. Remember to sip and not gulp.

Sometimes simple fare is simply the best. 

I am seriouly not a toast person. But this particular Shop located in kinney road is another place which i will say a must to try.

Unless alot of other branches or branch you see nowadays. Killiney Kopitiam still stick to the simple interior with simple food. proving to all those competitors out there that some stuff can just always remain as it is and delicious simple toast can also catch the heart of everyone. Order their milk tea with kaya bread and half boil egg. sound simple?? but it takes years of experience to toast the bread just the right crunch whereby you still taste the softeness in it... the fragrance smell coming from the toast bread and their home make kaya is just so hard to resist... on top of that with a nice cup of milk tea (i am not coffee person) which you can soak your bread slightly in it if you want. you won't regret it. their half boil  egg is just wonderful... ya.. it's just an egg.. but to boil it to just nice the egg white and cooked while the egg yolk still watery form take skills.. alot of places i tried usually over cooked it.

For those whom want to have other choices.. they also serve frence toast.. which is equally good.

P.S: for those whom want to buy fresh bake white bread.. can get it from them too but has to be early as if i am not wrong by noon time they don't sell it anymore..
