Introducing Bo

Sierra Leone's second-largest city, Bo escaped the scars of the war and is in better shape than many other urban centres. Still, there isn't much to do besides sleep, eat, chat and wander - just don't stray too far as this is somewhat sketchy diamond territory too.

For low budgets, there's Madame Woki's in the centre of town, while the Sahara Hotel has comfortable rooms from Le50,000, including breakfast.

Bush taxis to Freetown (four hours) depart frequently each morning from Maxwell Khobe Park near the centre. Abess buses (US$6) leave from Tikonko Rd around midnight. The quickest way to Kenema is usually to go out to Shell-Mingo on the highway and jump in a taxi there.
