I am in the early stages of planning a trip around the Balkans in around May next year. While my main targets are Montenegro and Albania, I would like to start with about a week in Serbia, and I am specifically interested in Novi Sad and the monasteries in the area, as well as Subotica. Can I have some advice about these points:

Would it be more convenient to access these cities from Belgrade or from Budapest?

Is Belgrade worth several days? I have read that it's not a particularly attractive…

Hello everyone.

I am going to be in Serbia this summer for about a week. I will be spending some days in Belgrade, but I'm looking for another place to visit for maybe 2 or 3 days. I think I'd like to try going someplace in southern Serbia, (I've heard that it is different from northern) but in general just any places in Serbia that are interesting, and preferably not another big city. I've heard there are some nice monasteries and stuff in Serbia, so it would be cool to see some of those. I'd…

Has someone recently traveled Belgrade to Sarajevo? I cannot buy tickets for the bus leaving at 6 am. Are there many people buying tickets for that bus? Is there another way to travel (no airplane)? I emailed three travel agencies, two never answered and one said they didn't have vans going to Sarajevo.
Please check links before post them. I've received a lot of links that don't work.
Thank you,

I can either fly into Budapest or Timisoara cheap to then travel on the next day to Belgrade.

If it's Budapest I'll be on the train all day, and will arrive in Belgrade early evening.

If it's Timisoara, I'll have half a day there before a mid-afternoon train to Belgrade (not the main station), getting in a bit later in the evening. I'll also have to change trains at the border.

Any preference as to which would be better as an experience?

I will be staying in Belgrade for 4 or 5 days.
It appears that I should buy a paper multi-storage "Bus-Plus" card that costs 40 dinar.
Can i only top this up one single time (up to 720 dinar or is it up to 890din now?) and then use 89 dinar single journeys until the credit runs out?
It appears that these paper cards can no longer be further topped-up (changed in January 2016?)
Or, are they only intended for one-time use 89 dinar trips or 280 dinar day-pass etc, effectively making the one trip cost…

Can you please recommend 2 or 3 nice places to stop and break this journey?
I know that the bus is much faster, but I really enjoy trains ;-)
Can I carry on West from Novi sad into Croatia and then re-connect to the main Zagreb line?

Interesting places, nice architecture, beautiful landscape, spa towns - doesn't really matter, but I would like reasonably priced place to stay ie.10 to 15 euro hostel or 20 euro single room?

Hello everyone,

Serbian government website says that as of November 2014, foreign nationals who have valid multiple-entry Schengen, EU, UK and USA visas or residence permits are allowed visa-free entry into Serbia for tourism.

I am looking for any firsthand reports from travellers to whom the above mentioned scenario apply. Even secondhand reports from your friends and acquaintances will help me make up my mind whether I…

Hi all

The missus and I are travelling to Serbia in the next month or two on a 10 day holiday (12 including flight days). The plan is to hire a car (getting an international driving licence to do so) and get out of Belgrade and see a few places and stay in a few different places too. On the way back before we fly back out we'll see Belgrade for a day or two but the plan is to fly and in and get out of Belgrade when we arrive.
We quite like the day of a well priced farm stay or bed and breakfast…

I'm going to be in Serbia for four-five days at the beginning of May. I'm thinking of spending two of them in Belgrade and then two/three of them in and doing day trips from either Novi Sad or Novi Pazar. Does anyone have strong preferences for one location over the other, what else to do with these two/three days, or what to do in Novi Sad? Also, are there night buses available from Novi Pazar to Sarajevo?

Hi everyone

I am travelling to Serbia from 8th May to 19th May. I will have 11 nights in total.

4 nights in Belgrade
3 nights in Negotin
3 nights in Nis
1 night Belgrade

I would like some suggestions of places to visit and things to do. No certain preferences.

Thanks in advance
