I'll be travelling through Senegal from 6-Feb-15 to 25-Feb-15 and happy to team up with others who have a hiking/tour etc. plan or is/are looking to grab a beer somewhere. I'm 30, Australian, work in NYC, speak reasonable french, travelled in Africa before (Zimbabwe, Mali, Burkina Faso, Ghana).
I spent nine months in Senegal in 2010 and am returning for the first time, i would like to spend some time touring around areas I haven't yet been to.
I would like to hear some recommendations for the Petit Coté, must see places or places to avoid.
I am also wondering if anybody has any info on Car rental in Senegal that is a little cheaper than the usual Hertz, Avis type places.
I have an African driving licence if this helps.
Thanks in Advance.
I am interested in learning about border crossing between Gambia and Senegal by car on the road N5, is open this border there? Or have I fly to Dakar and then fly to Ziguinchor? But I hope it will not be necessary to fly so complicated when I want go directly to Abene.☺
Thanks in advance.

Second question: is the online visa valid for multiple entries?

After spending 4 days visiting American friends who are working in Dakar, we (2 guys) would like to spend 3-4 days in mid-November somewhere else in Senegal. My ideal would be a friendly town that we could use as a base for bike rides between villages and maybe a day hike. I'm more interested in experiencing daily life than sightseeing. A beach would be fine but not a priority. Good food is good.
I must say i am a little confused about weather or not i have to pay €50 to pre-enrol for a tourist visa so that i can then pick one up at Dakar airport for free.
Ideal scenario would be to get a free or cheap tourist visa at the airport in Dakar (if one is actually needed for myself).
I am laying down the info i…
