Garden sights in Scotland

  1. A

    Royal Botanic Garden

Just north of Stockbridge is the lovely Royal Botanic Garden. Twenty-eight beautifully landscaped hectares include splendid Victorian palm houses, colourful swathes of rhododendron and azalea, and a world-famous rock garden. The Terrace Cafe offers good views towards the city centre.

Take Lothian Bus 8, 17, 23 or 27 to the East Gate, or the Majestic Tour bus.

  2. Trumland House

Undergoing extensive restoration at the time of research, this is probably the largest private house in Orkney. The grounds, with their thicket of native trees, are worth a stroll – you enter the walled garden through a medieval gate.

    Explorers Garden

At the Pitlochry Festival Theatre, this excellent garden commemorates 300 years of plant collecting and those who hunted down ‘new’ species. The whole collection is based on plants brought back to Scotland by Scottish explorers.
