Reality Check on Monthly Rentals--Advice needed!

Hello folks,

Woke up three days ago with a strong desire to go spend a few months in Scotland. Now at the preparation stage and ticket buying and rentals and such. But I need a reality check here, and would appreciate any help you can offer.

So, how realistic is it to expect to find a place to rent for a month or two somewhere in the Western Isles or on the islands of Argyll (Islay or Arran). I'd like to spend a month at least with some sheep and some sea and some green grass and some scotch…

Camper for Scotland trip

Hi,
as we are starting our Scotland trip on 15 June for 10 days we are looking for a small camper (two persons) with shower, toilet and a small kitchen. This is our first camper-trip so we don't know which type of camper is the best size.
I think better a small one, easier to drive, needs less petrol and can be parked nearly everywhere. Do you agree with me?! Can somebody give me a recommendation for a good company.
Thankx and best regards from Germany :-)

2 weeks in Scotland

A friend and I will have two weeks in Scotland in May. We plan to rent a car in Glasgow, then see Glasgow a bit, drive to the Isle of Skye, then to the Orkney Islands to see the ancient stone structures. Will this be possible in 2 weeks time? Any ideas about more specific things to see on Skye or any other place on our trip? Thanks.

Isle of Skye

Hey guys!

My girlfriend and I have a round trip to Dublin booked from May to June and plan to visit Ireland, Scotland, France, Switzerland, Italy, Spain and Morocco. My sole purpose in visiting Scotland is to stay in the Isle of Skye. We plan to spend sometime with her relatives in Ireland but were looking to possibly then flying to Glasgow and then going to Skye immediately from there.

My question is this, though: What's the best/cheapest method to get to Isle of Skye (Maybe it'd be better…

What's it like living in Edinburgh?

Hello!
I am considering a move to Edinburgh for a year but not sure what its like living there for expats. I am 26 and from sunny New Zealand and could be making the move by myself in May/June if I don't get my brother onboard! I have about a year left to spend there on my visa but not totally keen on London so thought Edinburgh could be a good option. I know the weather doesn't sound amazing but I guess that is just the UK! If anyone can give me some advice or tips from your experiences that…

Edinburgh Castle vs. Sterling Castle

If you only had time to visit one of these castles which would you prefer and why? I'd especiallly appreciate hearing from people who have seen both and can compare them firsthand.

Also, I've read really diverse opinions about Sterling castle. Some people complain that it doesn't really convey a sense of history and is more of a "Disney" experience. Any truth in that?

Hogmanay Edinburgh

Hi all!
I will be flying into Glasgow or Edinburgh on the morning of Dec 27th. I want to be in Edinburgh on New Years Eve for Hogmanay http://www.hogmanay-edinburgh.com/.
What should I do Dec 27-30th with day trips from either of the two cities? I love the outdoors. I plan on using public transportation.
Also, can I purchase tickets to the Hogmanay street fair when I arrive on Dec 27th or should I purchase ahead of time? Do I really need a ticket like it says on the website? I will be arriving…
