Pardon my ignorance, but I grew up in the tropics and currently live in California. Though I've experienced most climates in the US, I'm completely unfamiliar with what to expect in Scotland/UK. I'm hoping to travel light and would prefer to have only one light(weight)Jacket . I'm hoping for suggestions on what what would features be necessary for that piece of clothing. (How necessary is waterproof?) Bear in mind, my body runs hot. 50's is shorts weather for me. In the tundra of Minnesota I was…
I recently went to Scotland for a long weekend (5 days, 4 nights) and thought it would be good sharing my itinerary and trip given I struggled to find information before I went there:
We flew to Edinburgh and rented a car. We spent our first night near Inverness, the next two on the Isle of Skye and the last one neat Glencoe.
Hope this helps!
we are planning on a trip of approx two weeks to Scotland. It'll be a fly and drive, but all arranged by ourselves. I was thinking about starting and finishing in Glasgow and travel up north. I have read some good things about Loch Lomond, Perth, Isle of Mull, Gretna Green, Stirling, Oban, the Highlands and Inverness. But this is all form the touristy books/websites. I am sure that there is much more or maybe even nicer places to visit compared to the few I just mentioned.
Planning to go to Scotland end of May - start of June. Flying in and out from Glasgow. Our plan is to walk at every opportunity. Following is our itinerary. We may need to cut to three weeks. Where should I cut or opt for something else? What do you think ?

Rowardennan (Trossachs): 27- 30 may
Knoydart (Mallaig) : 30-1 june
Skye : 1-4 june (with one day trip to Outer Hebrides)
Torridon : 4-7 june
Talmine : 7-10 june (near Tongue)
Canninch (Glen Affric) : 11-13
GlenLyon : 13-16…
I am spending 35 days in Scotland, about 12-15 in Edinburgh and Glasgow. The question is, should I rent a car for 10-12 days in the country, and then switch to trains to go to some of the islands, or just keep the car and pay the ferry charges?
I am looking for some advice here! I hope someone has any or any suggestion.
I am looking for accommodation on Skye for 9 person. But The BnBs are usually for less person, and the hotels are expensive.
Does anyone know a good place for 9 person to stay for a week? Any experiences?
Thank you in advance!
In July, I will be making my first trip to Scotland. My girlfriend and I are flying to Edinburgh, where we will be staying for three days. Where would you all suggest visiting? I'm curious to find places other than the main monuments, although we will definitely visit Edinburgh Castle, Calton Hill, Arthur's Seat. Unfortunately, I believe the Palace of Holyroodhouse is closed during our stay, perhaps for a holiday?
What would be a good day trip from Edinburgh, if we wanted to get out…
Traveling to Skye for three nights with our 12 month old in May. We have booked accommodation in Portree. This was almost impossible seeing as it was so busy and many places do not accept children. I am wondering if we should consider staying elsewhere on the Island? We would like to stay in the same place for all three nights, want to enjoy some easy to moderate walking/hiking and have access to restaurants & shops. Ideally we don't want to be doing a lot of driving each day since we are with…
My friend and I are doing a 3 day stopover in Iceland before continuing to Scotland.
We fly into Glasgow but are going to take the train to Edinburgh and spend 2 days there. After that though we could use a little help. We want to see atleast atleast a taste of Scottish nature and the highlands. We were thinking of driving the third day to Stirling see the Castle and eat lunch there before going to Glencoe and hiking and see that. We were planning on ending the day at Fort…
To whom it may concern,
Just read an old article about experimental travelling, so I just had the idea for my journey to Scotland in August to ask you guys about your favorite place to be, to see, to taste...?
The first ten posts including your recommendations (one post - one place ;) )will determine my route.
I'm more than curious to read your answers!
