Restaurants in Inverness

  1. Maya

Ohhh, this place is dangerous. Bringing Belgian chocolates to the Highlands, Maya is the ultimate in sweet indulgence. It also serves up hot drinks, including hot chocolate…which goes perfectly with a box of chocolates.

    Joy of Taste

Here's a novel concept – a restaurant run by a head chef and 25 volunteers who work a shift a week just for 'the love of creating a beautiful restaurant' (plus a share of the profits). And a very good job they're making of it, with a menu of classic British cuisine – from broccoli and stilton soup to lemon posset via Scottish sirloin – and a growing fan club of satisfied customers.

    Shapla Tandoori Restaurant

Head upstairs and choose a table by the window, where you can enjoy a curry with a splendid view over the river. You can get a three-course lunch for £6 from noon to 2.30pm Monday to Saturday.

    Sam’s Indian Cuisine

The stylish decor in Sam’s is a cut above your average curry shop, and so is the food – lots of fresh and flavoursome spices and herbs make dishes such as jeera chicken (cooked with cumin seed) really zing. Wash it down with Indian Cobra beer.

    Rocpool

Lots of polished wood, navy-blue leather and crisp white linen lend a nautical air to this relaxing bistro, which offers a Mediterranean-influenced menu that makes the most of quality Scottish produce, especially seafood. The two-course lunch is £14.

    Pork, Cheese & Pie Shop

This deli sells a wide range of quality Scottish produce, but the main event as far as we’re concerned is the great selection of delicious gourmet pies (to take away) – choose from lamb and rosemary, game and blackberry or Cumberland sausage and tomato (and many others), and munch contentedly on a park bench beside the river.

  14. L

    Mustard Seed

The menu at this bright and bustling bistro changes weekly, but focuses on Scottish and French cuisine with a modern twist. Grab a table on the upstairs balcony if you can – it’s the best outdoor lunch spot in Inverness, with a great view across the river. And a two-course lunch for £7 – yes, that’s right – is hard to beat.

    Contrast Brasserie

Book early for what we think is the best restaurant in Inverness – a dining room that drips designer style, with smiling professional staff, and truly delicious food. Try scallops with chorizo bolognese, or pork belly with mange tout salad and lemongrass purée; 10 out of 10. And at £10 for a two-course lunch, or £15 for three-course early-bird dinner (5pm to 6.30pm), the value is unbeatable.
