Lady Visits Edinburgh
Blog: A Lady in London - 9 May 2011
If you were given a choice between a Cairo, Marrakech, Bergen, Berlin, Venice, or Edinburgh sightseeing trip, which would you choose? That was a question I had to answer on Wednesday morning when I was invited by bmi to travel to one of those destinations to write a story about a UNESCO World Heritage Site. [...]

Gretna Green: Last Call for Scottish Souvenirs, First Call for Weddings
Blog: Travelogged - 18 November 2010
When I go on a trip, I like to bring home souvenirs for my family (and, yes, for myself too). I usually like to purchase them at the end so I don’t have to bother carrying around and so that I feel like I’ve seen everything before I commit. Sometimes this works out, and sometimes [...]

London, Edinburgh, and Dublin are FREE
Blog: Honey Service Year - 30 August 2010
Oh what a delight it is to realize one's worry and travel expectations rise to frenetic and paranoid levels only to be relieved to discover the opposite is true: London, Edinburgh, and Dublin are FREE!! We spent months worrying about our time in Europe. A friend, Andy H., had smartly told us that we had a great beginning to our itinerary, 'You are smart to begin with Tokyo, Shanghai, China and

Gone to Edinburgh
Blog: Honey Service Year - 24 August 2010
We have left to Edinburgh. It is a round trip of sorts, even as neither of us have ever been there. Our families are from there; but, they hardly mentioned it to us.In a sense, we are discovering Scotland as most Americans would be likely to do... as a vague department of the ambiguously and synonymously named UK.But, that would be insulting to the Edinburgherishianese- who, unfortuantely, do not

Edinburgh: First Impressions
Blog: Quillcards - 5 August 2010
A Short Break We drove to Edinburgh recently for a short break and to take some photographs for our ecard collection. So we were armed with maps and a guidebook and I took my main camera (a Nikon D700) and a Panasonic LX3. We live in West Yorkshire, and according to Google Maps the journey [...]Edinburgh: First Impressions is a post from: Quillcards

The Top 3 Most Over Rated Attractions in Scotland – and Where You Should Go Instead!
Blog: A Travel Around the World - 4 June 2010
1. Edinburgh Castle – As much as I love Edinburgh, and often refer to it as my home city these days, Edinburgh Castle is by far and away the most over rated attraction not just in Scotland, but possibly the UK. Costing £13 to enter for an adult ticket, the stunning exterior of the Castle on the Crag can be deceiving. When you pay to enter however, it really is just an average experience, with no real difference to any other castle in Britain – except you pay much more to get in!

Edinburgh for Kids
Blog: Ciao Bambino! - 27 November 2009
Edinburgh in November. If you’re anything like me the first thing that comes to mind is cold! Don’t let the weather put a damper on your family plans. Edinburgh is a great place to take the kids. Just don’t forget a good coat. Though I’m not typically a big fan of tour buses, it was a good choice for my family. Almost all of the tours allow you to use your ticket to get on and off as often as you’d like.

A Little Technology…Harnessing the Power of Twitter
Blog: A Little Adrift - A RTW Travelogue - 22 October 2009
I discovered a fantastic new use for Twitter that I plan to use on many of my future travels – and again, I owe it all to Andy. When I popped Andy a question about the Edinburgh Fringe Festival shows we arranged to meet up for a drink and chat. Once he decided that I wasn’t psycho (I promise, although I am a spaz, I’m actually quite nice in person!) he invited me to attend the weekly Twitter coffee meet up in the city. Apparently these “coffee mornings” happen all over ...

A Little Music…Fringe’s Singing and Dancing
Blog: A Little Adrift - A RTW Travelogue - 19 October 2009
I approached Andy via email before I arrived in Edinburgh for Fringe show recommendations and to give him warning that I fully hoped to meet up for coffee and drinks while I was in town. Before he would send over a list of his recommendations he asks me: “Fringe can be pretty experimental and risqué, are you ok with nudity and profanity in the name of art or do you take offense easily?” Well, after watching his favorites – it’s probably a good thing I was warned! Edinburgh Fringe is unjuried and entirely ...

a little theatre…rocking edinburgh fringe festival
Blog: A Little Adrift - A RTW Travelogue - 16 October 2009
Exiting the bus station in Edinburgh, Scotland I’m lured down the street toward the distant sounds of street music and cheering crowds on Princes Street that mingle alluringly with the more immediate rush of cars and the other pedestrians vying for space on the sidewalk. I’ve got two hours to kill before my host for the next week gets off of work and that means wandering the streets of Edinburgh in search of entertainment and grub. by Mario Cutroneo Stepping foot in Edinburgh was a culminating moment for me – in high ...

Exploring Edinburgh
Blog: Nomadic Matt's Travel Site - 11 June 2009
I’ve always heard good things about the city of Edinburgh and I have to say that it fully lives up to its reputation.
