Lonely Planet review
With its moored yachts, stately swans and whitewashed houses clustered around the mouth of the River Almond, Cramond is the most picturesque corner of Edinburgh. It is also rich in history - the Romans built a fort here in the 2nd century AD.
Originally a mill village, Cramond has a historic 17th-century church, a 15th-century tower house and a local history museum in The Maltings (312 6034, Cramond Village - Sat & Sun Jun-Sep, daily during Edinburgh Festival), but most visitors come to enjoy a walk along the river or to enjoy a meal or a drink at the Cramond Inn (336 2035, 30 Cramond Glebe Rd).
