    A paradise for those in search of new and secondhand vinyl, this place has thousands of records - techno, house, jungle, hip-hop, R&B, funk, soul and 45s - plus a (smaller) selection of CDs, T-shirts, videos, books and merchandise. It's also a good place to find out what's happening on the local music/clubbing scene.

  6. Valvona & Crolla

    Valvona & Crolla is Scotland's oldest Delicatessen and Italian Wine Merchant. Founded in 1934, this historic and cavernous Italian deli has quality wine and ingredients with prices to match. They won Scottish Wine Merchant of the Year in 2004.

    Waterstone's flagship Princes St branch has four floors of books, with a good Scottish section on the ground floor and lots of travel guides and a coffee shop on the 2nd floor. It hosts frequent book signings and author events. There's another branch down the road at No 13 (; - Mon-Fri, - Sat, - Sun).

    A long-established secondhand bookshop, West Port has a good range of material covering Scottish history and also specialises in titles covering Indian and Himalayan history and art. There's a 10-percent discount for students.

Lots of little black dresses here - just the place if you're looking for something a little more formal for that special occasion - as well as quirky and off-beat styles.
