Lonely Planet review for Mum’s
After a change of name due to management fall-outs, the original founder of Monster Mash has reopened with a new name. This nostalgia-fuelled cafe continues to serve up classic British comfort food of the 1950s – bangers and mash, shepherd’s pie, fish and chips. But there’s a twist – the food is all top-quality nosh freshly prepared from local produce, including Crombie’s gourmet sausages. And there’s even a wine list!

Great intro. to haggis!
kellylouise recommends this,
I tried haggis, neeps & tatties here for the first time and was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed the meal. I wish we would have had time to come back for another meal and try some of the many sausages. We had a great chat with the staff as well. Make it a point to stop here!

Seeing is believing...
lwnski recommends this,
Monster Mash is relatively easy to find in the mean streets of Edinburgh, just look for the crowd of unsuspecting students and tourists, gob smacked and amazed, rubbing their eyes in disbelief, fearing they must be hallucinating because before them lies a takeaway shop in Scotland where the food IS NOT YELLOW.
Laugh as their brains shut down in order to understand the total lack of a deep fryer in the kitchen. Mirth as their senses overload while taste buds contemplate flavors never before explored. Chortle as students try to scrap every last bit of wasabi off their tongues which they thought was a lovely avocado dip.
Then walk away feeling like a smug, superior, condescending bastard.
