Lonely Planet review for Maxie’s Bistro
Maxie’s candlelit bistro, with its cushion-lined nooks set amid stone walls and wooden beams is a pleasant enough setting for a cosy dinner, but at summer lunchtimes people queue for the outdoor tables on the terrace overlooking Victoria St. The food is dependable – Maxie’s has been in the food business for more than 20 years – ranging from pastas, steaks and stir-fries to seafood platters and daily specials, and there’s an excellent selection of wines.

An Autum Evening at Maxies
astruthers recommends this,
Not being from Edinburgh myself and my boyfriend weren't sure where to eat on a busy Saturday night in the Centre of Edinburgh. We wanted somewhere intimate with traditional food and a nice ambience. We also wanted to be near the centre but away from tourists.
Maxies delivered it all. Our first surprise was the lovely table we were shown to with cosy seating around a big old fashioned table and a lovely view over the bar and restaurant. The wine list was perfect and the food excellent. My main concern was that although I picked and was very happy with the duck (mm) out of the corner of my eye I couldn't help seeing an amazing seafood platter that someone else was enjoying. Reasonably priced too, we'll be back.Good for: Romance, atmosphere, food, service
