Hi - has anyone used one of those "sleeping pods" on the Aberdeen to Lerwick trip on NorthLink ferries? Are they comfortable for a night's sleep, more or less? I'm trying to decide whether to book a 4 bed inner room, or one of the (cheaper) pods. If they go completely flat they'll most likely be fine...

Thanks - Andrew

Can you take a wildlife boat trip from Kylescu in October? Lonely Planet recommends seal and other wildlife viewing via boat from Kylescu. Is there another place on the North Coast 500 recommended for this?

Is it worth taking a day trip to the Orkney Islands in October (tours seem to end September)? Do you stay overnight at John O'Groats for this? Is it worth staying in John O'Groats or is this better done elsewhere?

Hi All :)

We're planning to visit Scotland for 2 weeks starting end November and was looking at heading to the Northern part of the country. Been to Scotland twice already, but only managed to get up to Inverness. Started pin pointing places that are worth visiting this time round, but weather/day light seems to be an issue during that period.

Keeping in mind I'm from sunny Malta were the only winter we get here is a couple of rainy days a year with temperatures rarely dropping under 10…

I am travelling to Edinburgh and i am hoping to do/see as much as i can in 3 days.I am arriving to on Sept.22nd Thurs. by noon( 12:15 pm to be exact.).My flight is not going to be that tiring(approx. 1hour15mins)so I think i will still be fresh to do some sightseeing.Getting to city center by Airlink airport bus, finding my way to the hotel, dropping my baggage could still give me some time to explore something in late afternoon/early evening ( except for museums.).I dont have any particular…

I am planning to be in the highlands and Skye for over a week, but need to attend a formal function afterwards. I want to pack light.

I'll be driving around and taking light walks and hikes, nothing too extreme.

I was thinking of taking a single pair of RM Williams chelsea boots from my last Australia trip, which will hopefully go with a suit and a long walk.

I was also going to take a Gloverall duffel coat (with the toggles) so it doubles as a presentable city coat.

Then I'll add a good…

I am planning to go to Inverness, drive for at least 5 days through the North Coast 500 and see the highlands, then spend at least 3 days in the Isle of Skye. I then plan to go down to Glasgow instead of returning to Inverness.

If I do this, should I skip Oban/Mull and other nature stops because it might be too much nature at that point? Should I instead focus on structures like Stirling after my outdoors fix?
