History
The site was settled in 1446 by an ancestor of the Al-Sauds. Dir’aiyah reached its peak in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, during the first Saudi empire. The city fell to the Ottomans after a six-month siege in 1818. After Dir’aiyah was razed, the Al-Sauds moved to Riyadh.
