Lonely Planet review

Vastly more appealing in its public areas since its take-over by the Park Inn chain, the old Soviet-era Pulkovskaya remains the closest full-service hotel to the airport. It offers a decent level of comfort and amenities, including freshly brewed beer!

The building's scalloped concrete exterior fits right in with the architectural brutalism of the surrounding area, while inside it's all primary coloured furnishing. The renovations haven't quite got around to all the hotel's 840 rooms yet, many of which appear dated. They are generally spacious and pleasantly furnished, though. Consider upgrading to the luxe rooms which are nattily decorated in soothing cream tones; some also afford splendid views of the Monument to the Heroic Defenders of Leningrad. The Pulkovskaya makes up for its distance from the city's array of restaurants and bars by providing a choice of Mediterranean, Russian and German dining venues, the latter notable for brewing its own beers. They also offer a free shuttle bus to and from the city centre.

Our independent authors have visited Park Inn - Pulkovskaya and selected this as one of our recommended accommodation in St Petersburg.
