The 1789 Voznesensko-Georgievskaya Church has risen phoenixlike from the tatty riverside factory of which it once formed a part.
A short walk from the monastery on the way back into town, Lovers Bridge is a local landmark covered in appropriately romantic graffiti....
Trinity Monastery information
Lonely Planet review
Riverside Trinity Monastery is undoubtedly Tyumen’s most appealing architectural complex. Its kremlin-style crenellated outer wall is pierced by a single gate tower. Behind, black and gold domes top the striking 1727 Peter & Paul Church , whose soaring interior is emphasised by a giant, seven-level candelabra and decorated with murals.
To get to the monastery, walk west out of the city to the end of ul Respubliki or take bus 14 or 30 from the city centre. Both also stop at the nearby 1791 Krestovozdvizhenskaya Church . This attractive church is even more photogenic seen across the ferric-brown river from tree-lined Bergovaya ul with its sprinkling of curiously twisted old wooden houses (старые деревянные дома, notably numbers 73 and 53). If the weather is good, it’s a pleasant 40-minute walk back into the centre of town from the monastery.
