I'll have a layover in Moscow from 7 pm to next day 2 pm. I want to go out and explore the city in whatever limited time i have. Please suggest what can i be done in this limited time period or is it even worth going out?
I stayed at HM Hostel this week.
I can honestly say this was the very worst hostel experience of my life. The place is filled with deadbeat long term residents, the staff are antagonistic druggies who invite their crusty friends for free sofa accommodation in the common areas, I had $50 stolen (and was aggressively accused of lying by staff), most residents don't crawl out of bed until noon, and there is usually some creature sleeping in the shared areas, so you have to creep about if you get…
I'm looking into two options:
1) Winter: Trans Siberian from Moscow to Vladivostok with a couple stops. Winter just seems like classic Russia and would be a good way to do the journey with fewer tourists. Also photos like this are awesome and won't be possible in the summer: http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2013/01/20/article-2265356-16F49F62000005DC-626_634x419.jpg
2) Summer: Trans Mongolian as part of a larger journey from London/Europe to Asia, maybe to Hong Kong or maybe all the way to…
I already booked a few times on RZD website, but they renewed it, and now I have some problems. For example the site where I have to enter our data is in kyrillic and I can't find our citizenship, german, in the list. Can somebody help? Also, I was wondering if it is currently possible to pay with foreign credit cards? Last time, in 2015, mine wasn't accepted.
Also, what does this mean?

I am planning to go to Russia in Sept for about 8 days in September. I thought of using way to russia.net as a "travel agency". What month should I start the process? Also, on the invitation letter application, it asks for specific dates of travel to and out of Russia. Coan I get the actual visa before spending lots of money buying and airline ticket or train ticket for those dates? ( I would hate to buy a ticket before only to find my visa has been rejected)
thanks for advice,
I am planning a big horse adventure for next year in Russia. I am an Australian citizen and have been to Russia twice on 30 day tourist visas. My intention is for my trip to be up to a year in duration.
My biggest problem is in obtaining a visa that is for a year straight in duration. Has anyone heard of any way to get a visa for a year straight?
Thanks everyone :)

I am going to be in the Lake Baikal region and plan to spend a couple of days on Lake Olkhon. Apparently this is an area where their can be exposure to encephaltis from ticks in rural areas. I live in the US and was just told that there are currently no FDA approved shots for this available in the USA, although there are shots in Europe.
Any ideas regarding what I can do to protect myself? I won't be camping but I will be hiking. I also will be in western russia for two weeks before I…
