Just wondering if anyone has used a visa service for their trip to russia that they would recommend. It looks like if we go in person to the embassy we have to make an appt and the first appt we can get is the week before we leave- too close for comfort! I've never used a visa service before and just want to get some recommendations before I do.
I'm in the process of planning a trip on the TSR and can't decide which season to go in. I know that summer has the most activities available but I also wanted to go skiing (Baikalsk/Krasnoyarsk) or dog sledding, however I don't particularly want to go in winter when the natural landscape will be covered in a blanket on snow. I have heard that autumn is a nice time to go but is there still a range of summer and winter activities on offer? Or is it better off just going in summer or winter?
I'll be heading to Russia for a month in about 2 weeks. I was thinking about going to Crimea. I did a search of the thorn tree and most of the posts are over a year old so I thought I would ask about anyone's more resent experience. Though any info would be good I was wondering about traspettation options. Are there regular fairies and if so from where? Would it be more practical to fly? Since I'll be ther in late July will I have trouble getting a fairie or room if I just show up? I have…
Can anyone recommend centrally located hotels in Moscow and St Petersburg for a first time visit? Location close to tourist sites, the metro and restaurants is probably our first priority as we like to explore on foot and it would be good to have a decent breakfast included (or be very close to cafes). Maximum budget around £80 but would be happy to pay significantly less than this and budget type places are fine. There seems to be an overwhelming number of options with mixed reviews and I'm…
Hi, I normally have no trouble changing british £ at currency exchanges in large cities in Russia, but following the vote for the UK to leave the EU and the fall in sterling I wondered if anyone knew whether £ are still exchangeable. I will be in Omsk, Tomsk and Irkutsk. If anyone can update on the situation (from today onwards) I would be grateful.
I shall be visiting Moscow and St Petersburg later this year and was wondering if it is possible to explore the canals and rivers of these two places by public transport, or should one do a tour? ggypsy1
I applied for a tourist visa from the ILS location in Toronto. I am a Canadian citizen. I used 'IVisa' to order an invitation to use for my mail-in 'express' application which according to ILS should take three business days from date of application arriving.
Here's the issue: ILS called and asked me to confirm that I have hotel bookings for when the Russian consulate requests them, which according to ILS, they most likely will. My understanding was that as long as I ordered a visa support…

I have searched the thorntree but can't find precise answers. I took the transsiberian line 3 times (last time in 2013) and now I am interested by a long "side trip" to Iakutsk, and then coming back tu the BAm line to take it to the end to the ferry to Sakhalin. esides, I am also interested by south Kuril islands. I could not find up to date advice, is the train line that was supposed to work in 2014 ending not far from Iakutsk in service? Is a permit necessary for this area now?
I believe it's…
