Pancho Villa
Near Oktyabrskaya pl, this is still Moscow’s top choice for ‘Meksikansky’ food. If the fajitas and margaritas aren’t enough of a draw, come for breakfast burritos, happy-hour specials (before 7pm Monday to Thursday) or live Latin music nightly (from 9pm).

Santa Fe
If the Moscow winter is getting you down, head south of the border at Krasnaya Presnya park. The long-standing expat favourite Santa Fe has a big atrium that lets in the sunlight, even when temperatures outside are subzero. Exotic fruit juices add to the tropical ambience. Big plates of nachos, burritos and other Tex-Mex specialities will tantalise the taste buds and warm your soul.

Mexico Kafe
Dangling chillies, Aztec icons and a big charcoal grill add atmosphere while Los Gringos serenade. Great Mexican food and twice winner of the ‘Best Russian Bar-B-Q’ award (2006 and 2007).

La Cucaracha
Claims the best Mexican food east of Moscow. Although some dishes have funny Russian nuances, the guacamole does not disappoint. Live Latin music plays most nights.

Plastic flashing palm trees and okay Mexican food. Be sure to ask if you want it spicy! Cover R100 from 8pm on music nights.
