We are thinking in spend the last week of the year between Moscow and Saint Petersburg and we are not sure wich city to choose to spent new year's eve. We would like to see a nice fireworks show and a good party after it. What would be your first choice?

My boyfriend and I contacted an agency to arrange trans-siberian train tickets and visa for us since we are already on the road and plan our visit to Russia in upcoming December.
After we paid for our train tickets, they then informed us they couldn't help for the visa because we are not UK citizens (we are Canadians).

They did send us the support documents with letter of invitation. I feel like all we need is to find a visa centre or consulate that will accept our application, but that might…

Hi fellow travellers
does anyone out there know the procedure for obtaining an auto transit visa for Russia in Almaty. Do the forms have to be filled out in the Russian language, and do they want a letter showing the route we will be taking to Latvia?
Also know a website where I can find out what hours the visa office is open. I've tried finding something on the internet but failed miserably.
Any information would be appreciated
Happy travels everyone
Lyn

Hello there! I'm super new to this community and am looking forward to receive some helpful advice. I did come across a similar topic titled, 'Itinerary in Murmansk', but the content wasn't specific to my query; hence this new thread.

I've planned for a 21-day, solo, back-packing trip for Christmas/NYE this year. Included in my travel agenda is a chase of the Northern Lights; Murmansk is a part of that itinerary.

I've been told that Teriberka is a good spot for viewing the lights and hence…

Hi,

does anybody know how rough the sea between Vladivostok and Donghae is in winter?
We only took this ferry in summer when it was quite calm...
Any experiences are appreciated ;)

Hi,

we are a couple from germany and already travelled 3 times with the transsiberian and transmongolian, once to Beijing, twice to Vladivostok. This winter, we'd like to take the transmongolian again, but preferably first class because we will have a little baby with us. As on the RZD website, it is not possible to buy international tickets as well as first class tickets for this train, we were wondering if we could just buy them at the station in Moscow on short notice?
We would prefer to…

One of questions asked when applying for a Russian visa is 'have you visited Russia before' . If you answer 'yes ' it asks for previous visa details. I visited in 1980 but have no idea of those details. Can I just say 'no' to the first question considering we are going back 26 years.

I'm currently in Ulan-Ude and planning on hitting the road in a few days, driving across Russia, back to Europe. I'm still figuring out my exact route, but I'm guessing it will take me through Irkutsk, Krasnoyarsk, Tomsk, and Novosibirsk. After that, I may cross into Kazakhstan to see Astana and then back into Russia to Samara, Kazan, and Moscow. I'm totally flexible and willing to alter my route, though, if one way seems more interesting than another.

Here's what I'm looking for: I have a…
