Hello, my husband and i will be stopping in Omsk for two days in mid-November and are wondering if there are local tour agencies running tours to the old Gulag camps. It is hard to find much information of local tour guides online. Thank you!
According to Lonely Planet and other sources, getting a visa to visit St. Petersburg isn't a huge obstacle but it can't be done before two months of one's visit. We are planning on flying from Turko, Finland, to St. Petersburg and then from St. Petersburg home to the US. Prior to this, we will have spent about three weeks in Norway, Sweden, and Finland. Here are my two concerns: First, such things as flights and lodging will be taken care of long before we leave the US for Norway, so is there…
Back in the day (2003), i took the train from Lithuania, via Belarus, to Russia. However, there was no immigration stop at the Belarusian/Russian border so i didn't get stamped. It was then a pain in the butt to try to rectify this.
Is this still the same? Is there an immigration stop between the two? If not, is there a way to get my passport stamped in Belarus before getting on the train?

We are thinking in spend the last week of the year between Moscow and Saint Petersburg and we are not sure wich city to choose to spent new year's eve. We would like to see a nice fireworks show and a good party after it. What would be your first choice?
My boyfriend and I contacted an agency to arrange trans-siberian train tickets and visa for us since we are already on the road and plan our visit to Russia in upcoming December.
After we paid for our train tickets, they then informed us they couldn't help for the visa because we are not UK citizens (we are Canadians).
They did send us the support documents with letter of invitation. I feel like all we need is to find a visa centre or consulate that will accept our application, but that might…
Hi fellow travellers
does anyone out there know the procedure for obtaining an auto transit visa for Russia in Almaty. Do the forms have to be filled out in the Russian language, and do they want a letter showing the route we will be taking to Latvia?
Also know a website where I can find out what hours the visa office is open. I've tried finding something on the internet but failed miserably.
Any information would be appreciated
Happy travels everyone
Hello there! I'm super new to this community and am looking forward to receive some helpful advice. I did come across a similar topic titled, 'Itinerary in Murmansk', but the content wasn't specific to my query; hence this new thread.
I've planned for a 21-day, solo, back-packing trip for Christmas/NYE this year. Included in my travel agenda is a chase of the Northern Lights; Murmansk is a part of that itinerary.
I've been told that Teriberka is a good spot for viewing the lights and hence…
does anybody know how rough the sea between Vladivostok and Donghae is in winter?
We only took this ferry in summer when it was quite calm...
Any experiences are appreciated ;)
