I’d like to ask the LP-Community for advice since I have troubles to make my mind up: I’m considering braking up my journey (in July) from the Estonian border to Pskov by visiting either Stary Izborsk or Pechory or both. But by consulting the LP Guidebook I’m not sure if is it worthwhile or if is better to focus on Pskov only? Does anybody has some experience to share? Is it correct that buses run often between these places?
Which one would you recommend for an overnight stay (i.e. which is…
The registration thing in Russia sounds a bit confusing.
I will soon travel in southern Russia on a 30 day tourist visa. Georgia to Ukraine Overland, EU passport.
The plan is to be on the move most days, with a lot of wild camping, which means staying in hotels just once in a while and almost certainly never more than 3 consecutive nights.
Do I still have to register even though I won't be staying long in the towns I plan to visit ?
What if I never register ? Can I expect hassles at the border…
Finally received our visas! We need to book rail tickets and I have found good rates on the russianrail.com site.
We are wanting to book Helsinki to St Petersburg and St Petersburg to Moscow. Does anyone know this website and how we would get our tickets? We are in Australia and would be booking six adult tickets and traveling mid August. Thank you.
Will be coming to Russia for the World Cup next year.
Will be staying in a mix of budget hotels and airbnbs.
Do we have to register in each City we visit?
At this stage we are visiting Moscow, St Petersburg, Rostov on Don, Sochi, Veliky Novgorod and Nizhny Novgorod
Have been looking at doing a round trip from Beijing this December/January that runs through Ulaanbaater, Harbin, Irkutsk and Vladivostok with the idea to spend at least a week at Lake Baikal (Hopefully when it is frozen over in mid January)
I was really interested in visiting Oymyakon for a few days. I completely understand the cold and that there isn't anything to really do there but I am a photojournalist and interested in just seeing how the people survive in the elements there. I'd…
Maybe someone can advice me on this: I’m planning to travel from Helsinki to St. Petersburg but would like to take in some sights en route. Therefore it would be great to get some help concerning the following questions:
I understand that there are plenty of buses starting in Helsinki and heading to Vyborg. Is this correct? Has anybody done this recently?
Is there a public transport from Vyborg (bus or train) to Sortavala (in order to visit Valaam). Has anybody some experience on this? Are…
My partner and I are going to take Trans-Siberian railway this Summer.
We have already booked our flight tickets and got our VISA.
We will start from Vladivostok and end up at St. Petersburg. Now we are planning our itinerary and all advice is welcome!
I have mainly referenced from Lonely Planet and Trans-Siberian Handbook (by Thomas)
- Vladivostok (2 day 2 night) -- City, Museums, Preparing and setting up (Money, Telecommunications...etc.)
- Khabarovsk (1 day 1 night) -- City
- Ulan-Ude (1…
My daughter and I are traveling Europe in October and would like to catch a flight into Moscow from Istanbul Turkey for a 2 day visit. Then fly back home to Texas.
Do we need to go the "full enchilada" in obtaining a tourist Visa for a less than 72 hour visit? In other words, get that letter of sponser by hotel, then submit our passports and applications to consulate, and wait? Even though we don't leave for 3 months, it makes me nervous handing our passports over and waiting for them…
Quick question: I have booked trip to St Petersburg with St Peter Line ferry. I have one free night. I have book a hostel to stay in that night. Is it true that any such independent overnight stays away from the ferry have to be booked through the ferry? (i.e. accommodation listed on their site)
Many thanks in advance
I will be visiting Moscow for a few days - I love bathhouse culture. I have been fortunate to check out the ones in Korea, Japan, and morocco and they are so different and unique yet of the same realm.
That said, there are many "tourist" types which cost sometimes up to 10 or 100x more than a locals spot - this was true in morocco. They also clearly were quite different than a local hamman and were more luxury spas.
I am looking for something similar in Moscow. Where it is quite cheap, and the…
