I started planning for the stay at this hotel in March and contacted them to book the room + the minivan from Irkutsk-Khujhir. I was asked to pre-pay 150 RUB which I did thru Paypal. So far so good.

On the day of travel, I found out that others, who had booked the minivan just the previous day, were paying only 800 RUB, while I was paying a total of 950 RUB. While checking-in, when I asked about this, I was told since I…

Hello,
Me and my brother are Colombian and US dual citizens planning on going to Russia in late June. We plan on coming from Georgia, where we would use our US passport. For US citizens it is required to get a visa to Russia, while Colombian citizens are exempt. What should be the best or correct way to assure we can get in hassle free to Russia using the Colombian passport (ie going through customs) , and will we have problems with the US passport considering we don't have a visa? Thanks!

I had the good fortune of visiting the Russian Visa Center, AKA "Invisa Logistic Services" twice in 2 days. Some tips:

1) Common application "errors"
If you've ever played the game "Papers Please", the workers at Russian Visa Center are basically elite level players. Anything even slightly (or potentially) out of line in your application WILL be found and you WILL be sent away to fix it.

The date on your letter of invitation and voucher must be in DD.MM.YYYY format. I got my letter of…

Any suggestions on the best or most interesting way to get from Kazan to St. Petersburg? I am going to Kazan from Moscow, so would prefer not to go back through Moscow again.

I looked at flights, and they are all at absolutely awful times of day: Rossiya has a direct flight leaving 3:55AM arriving 6:10AM; S7 has a 9:50pm departure with a 7 hour layover in Moscow that arrives at 7:30 am. In either case I'm basically not sleeping that night.

It looks like the train takes ~24 hours - also not…
