Night Flight
This continues to be one of Moscow's most popular spots for business travellers on expense accounts, despite - or because of - its dubious reputation. Indeed, it's hard to miss the crowds of working women hanging around this club. Nonetheless, the restaurant continues to receive rave reviews, thanks to Swedish ingredients and chefs. And the dance floor is always hopping. No cover charge for restaurant guests.

Propaganda
This long-time favourite looks to be straight from the warehouse district, with exposed brick walls and pipe ceilings. It’s a café by day, but at night they clear the dance floor and let the DJ do his stuff. This is a gay-friendly place, especially on Sunday nights.

The Most
If you want to party like the novy russky (New Russians) this is the place for you. It is certainly among the most expensive, the most exclusive and the most extravagant clubs in Moscow. Located in the basement of a fancy French restaurant, its post-industrial space is decorated with baroque architectural elements (think gold-framed mirrors bedecking red brick walls, and crystal chandeliers suspended alongside black iron pipes). Girls in gowns groove along the catwalk overlooking the dance floor. The place is co-owned by Roman Abramovich, the most rich and famous of all New Russians. PS – face control; the most.

B2
This huge, four-storey entertainment complex has long rated among Moscow's favourite nightlife hot spots, probably because it offers something for everyone. Take your pick from several dance floors, a `chill-out room', an airy courtyard, billiards, karaoke and more. The place holds over 1500 people, which makes it an excellent venue for top music acts. This is a branch of the original club, Bunker, on Tverskaya ulitsa.

Karma Bar
The Karma Bar is home to a worldly mix of Asian food, Latin music and Russian fun. Thursday night usually features live music, while the other nights are for DJs and dancing – there are free lessons from 9pm to 11pm on Friday and Saturday. Sunday night is dedicated to hip hop and R ‘n’ B. Add to this mix happy hours and hookah pipes, and you’ve got one of Moscow’s top expat clubs.

Keks
A fashionable place that won't bust the budget, Keks was converted from a former textile factory, and now features black and white photos, comfy armchairs, decent food and a balcony ideal for watching the activity on the dance floor. The best dance floor viewing is on Friday and Saturday nights, when DJs spin cool music and young folks turn out in droves.

Gogol
Fun, informal and affordable (so surprising on swanky Stoleshnikov), Gogol is great for food, drinks and music. The underground club takes the bunker theme seriously, notifying customers that their food is ready with an air-raid siren. In summer the action moves out to the courtyard, where the gigantic tent is styled like an old-fashioned street scene.

Voodoo Lounge
Tucked away in the western back streets of the city is Moscow's hot spot for serious dancing. The exotic international theme includes local DJs, live music (rock and Latin), salsa lessons on Tuesday nights, carnivals, theme nights and an Arabian-style chill-out room. All nights fill with regulars so be early to skip the queue.

Kult
This hang out for arty types comes complete with a big screen showing avant-garde films (9pm Sunday through Thursday) and a gallery featuring local artists. DJs spin all kinds of music, especially hip hop, funk, reggae and jazz. Board games, hookah pipes and cool vibes make this one of Moscow’s most chilled locations.

BB King
This old-style blues club hosts an open jam session on Wednesday night, acoustic blues on Sunday and live performances other nights. The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner, when you can listen to jazz and blues on the old-fashioned jukebox. Enter from the courtyard.

Soho Rooms
At the time of writing, the coolest club in Moscow was this uberexclusive nightclub with scantily clad women, cool music and expensive cocktails. Of course, many clubs in Moscow can boast such things, but only Soho Rooms has a swimming pool and a poolside terrace too.
