Hey everyone,

I'm sure someone already answered this somewhere but I'd greatly appreciate if someone helped me as it seems I can't find the answer.

I'm going to be traveling to Russia in September. I've read you have to register your visa within 7 working days of arriving to each city you're visiting. I'm planning on staying at Airbnb's so my "hosts" wouldn't be able to register my visa like regular hotels do. However, I'll never spend more than 7 working days at any particular place (5 at…

Hi,

I'm wondering if anyone has recently travelled in/around Tuva this year? I'm coming to Kyzyl in mid-July. I'm looking to travel from Kyzyl to Toora-Khem by ferry up the Bii-Khem river. I've tried a couple local agencies to help with booking tickets in advance, as I understand it fills up quickly... but no one can offer me the service saying that basically 'travel is difficult in Tuva'. Why is that? Are there any restrictions in place for travelling independently within Tuva (aside from near…

Does anyone know if there is a hotel in Novy Urgal? I saw a blog post from 2008 saying the hotel was being renovated, but I can't find anything more recent. What about a "resting room" at the train station? (I'm not entirely sure what a resting room is...)

Hi we are going to Russia in August and hope to visit some cities of Moscow's golden ring. We are allowing two days for this. Would it be safe to hire a car and just drive from city to city? If not what is the best cities to visit by train? Any suggestions would be welcome.

Hello! I am thinking about going on the Trans Siberian Railway in December (Vladivostok to St Petersburg) and just wondering if it is a good idea or bad idea to travel in this month! In terms of weather, what to do/see and so on. If anyone has experience of winter time Trans Siberian travel and can advise me I would really appreciate it! Thank you :)

Does anyone know the best place (i.e., best rate; low or no commission; convenient location; etc.) to either change US Dollars or use an ATM machine in St. Petersburg? We are traveling on a tight budget. Spaseba!

Couple of questions about visiting the Hermitage:
1) I'll be visiting the museum with my wife and two children. If I understand correctly the children are free, is that right?
2) If so, and I buy two tickets online in advance, do the children just tag along? I'm wondering if we would still need a ticket for them and need to wait in line, even if the cost of said ticket is free.
3) In looking into this I see conflicting information about buying tickets at the museum on the day of the visit. Are…
