Looking for recent experience about applying for a private visa, preferably applying in China as foreigner
I am planning to travel through Russia overland from China >> Vladivostok to St. Petersburg >> Estonia. Since it's not clear when I will enter the country, I want to apply for my visa in China (Beijing/Shanghai). Furthermore I think 30 days will be on the edge of doable so I am looking for options to stay in Russia for longer. My local Russian Visa Centre wrote to me that a private visa might be an option.

Could someone tell me if it is possible to do it as a day trip? If yes, any companies that offer this service?

I arrive at Moscow's DME airport at midnight and my next flight doesn't depart unit 10:45 AM. Even if I start checking in at, say 8 AM, this makes for a very long layover. So - is there an airport lounge one can purchase time at? Secondly, if wanting to spend the night at the airport hotel - apparently 15 minutes outside the terminal, do you still need a transit visa (for Canadian travellers?) And if so, can I just make arrangements at the airport upon arrival for this?
Thanks very much.
I planned my holiday for the last week of May and first week of June and I'm still not 100% sure where to go. I've always wanted to go to Russia, but criss-crossing the entire country in just two weeks on a tight budget is not an option. Therefore I would like to concentrate on St Petersburg and Karelia only.
Kizhi and the Solovetsky Islands are the two destinations (besides St. Petersburg) I'm interested in but I'm stil hesitant about visiting those places as they are not reached that…
