Lonely Planet review for Crama Sibiul Vechi
This popular, evocative brick-cellar spot off the main crawl reels in locals for its tasty Transylvanian armoury of mutton, sausages and beef and fish. There's live music most nights.

A dark and stormy night in Sibiu
jjita recommends this,
We had been journeying across the fields of Romania for countless hours under the rain, so, when we finally reached our hostel in Sibiu we had little desire of going out again. Nevertheless, with faith in our trusted Lonely Planet guidebook, we defied the pouring rain and we turned in a dark alley just off the main street where the Crama Sibiul Vechi restaurant was said to be. We peeped from the door into the dim-lighted cellar: the warmth of Romanian folk music played by a musical trio dressed in traditional clothes invited us to cross the threshold. Inside, we did stand out amidst the other customers, mostly well-dressed locals and a few tourists equally dressed-up. Luckily the friendly host didn't seem to notice our hiking boots and windbreakers and led us to the last empty table. The sound of fiddles and accordions created an enjoyable atmosphere for our meal: fried sausages, fried cheese, pork fillet accompanied by the traditional tomato and cucumber salad and a fine strong Romanian ale. Sweet plum dumplings and placinta, a kind of pastry with jam, closed our evening out in Sibiu. Restored and happy, we made our way back to the hostel, the sky suddenly cloudlessly clear.
