Lonely Planet review for La Piazzetta

Facing the square, this pizzeria is livelier than most, with smokers and passive smokers eating sizey pizzas at red-chequered tables in the peach-walled interior or outside when the weather's nice.

I love Germany, I mean Romania

    daniotil recommends this,

The region around Bucharest was nothing much to look is flat and treeless, with awful architecture and power plants. The regions further north, are mountainous, with lots of trees, the road followed a river, which is very picturesque.

Sibiu is an old town in the Transylvania, this town was voted the European Cultural Capital for 2007, and I had high hopes as we arrived. We found our hotel easily, because it is the largest building in town, and it was right on the road we drove into town. We went out to explore Sibiu and almost immediately it became apparent this is European café culture, the charming cobblestone street was lined with cafes, and people were faced out to the street, drinking enormous beers or coffee drinks, eating pizzas, and smoking cigarettes. I love it.

The old buildings on either side of the street were in great shape, and colorfully painted, the architecture reminded me of Germany, apparently Sibiu was built by Saxons so that is why it is very German in appearance. The town is quite small, we covered the key sights in a couple of hours using only a map. One of Sibiu’s main attractions is the huge Romano-Catholic Church that sits in the middle of the main square Piata Mare.

Most European cities generally have the center around a main plaza, which is usually incredibly beautiful and surrounded by historic buildings. So, the town is just wonderful. Everywhere we looked there was something lovely, stone archways, the town’s signature eyebrow dormer windows, it seems like the buildings are watching you and the Liars Bridge, if you tell a lie as you pass over it will crumble under you. Everything so far on this trip has been so foreign and exotic, it just feels good to be in a region that is somehow familiar and comfortable.

Later we found a great Italian pizzeria just off Piata Mare, where we had a bottle of Italian white wine, a fantastic salad and a mushroom pizza. All the cafes were full by the time we walked home at 11pm. Wonderful.
