I am traveling in early September, alone.
I usually prefer train travel, when possible and tend to stay in youth hostels or small / cheap guesthouses, so it is important to have reasonably near cheap accommodation.
Looking for a local natural spa town: sulphar water, hot springs and if possible black mud. I prefer a simple/local 5 euro entrance type place, to a tourist hotel...
Could some one please recommend one or two stopover points along the train line from Iasi to Bucharest.
I've been searching for ways to get from Sofia or Bucharest to Istanbul during early August. So far internet searches haven't really yielded much information (such as rail.cc which states 'Buy the train ticket at a railway station. Note: in some countries you have to pay a service fee at the ticket counter. The ticket can be purchased at a station in the country of departure, also sometimes in other countries.')
Does anyone know if it is possible to buy a ticket online for an overnight train…
We are going to Romania at the end of July with our 1.5 year old daughter and we plan to spend roughly 4 days in the Bucovina/Moldova region to see the monasteries and ideally Bicaz/Ceahlau/Rarau and maybe some of the other tourist spots in the region. We'd ideally like to join a group tour for this since we'd prefer not to drive and it would be hard to do public transport with a toddler. Does anyone know of any that fit the bill or tour operators that could arrange this for us? Thanks!
I am travelling with a friend this summer and intend to make the crossing by foot into Ukraine so that we can catch the train from Solotvino (which i think leaves at 1745.
How long does this border crossing take? I imagine its quite quick to leave Romania, how long are the formalities likely to take entering Ukraine?
Hi all headed to Brasov tomorrow afternoon and thinking of heading to Peles in the AM Monday (as it closes at 12:15 for Easter) and then Bran castle after. Is that feasible?!
Me and 5 friends are visiting Romania this summer (22 to 31 juli). Besides visiting Bucharest and Brasov we've planned a hike from Sinaia to Zarnesti: map @ Google Maps.
We're planning on doing this in 4 days, 3 nights. For the 3 nights we're planning on staying at the following places:
- Cabana Babele (Bucegi NP)
- Hostel/Airbnb/homestay (Bran)
- Refugiu Alpin Grind (Piatra Craiului)
Now I've been trying to find ways to get in touch with folks at the Cabana Babele so we can make a…
My wife, myself, and 2 kids (ages 3 yo and 3 mo) are going on an 8 day trip beginning and ending in Bucharest. I had hoped to go to Brasov, Sighisoara, and Sibu, but I don't think there is enough time and having 2 kids definitely slows things down. Any advice on choosing 2 out of the 3 would be very much appreciated. Thanks for the help
I will be traveling solo to Brasov and looking for some advice. I will have 3-4 days in Brasov and want to see the surrounding area (except for the Bran and other castles - have already been there). I have a few questions:
I found several tour companies but it seems they all offer private tours. Are there some companies where I can just join a group so I'm not the only one on the tour? (Hopefully it would be cheaper that way too).
Should I base myself in Brasov and travel…
Could you recommend some good guide books for Romania, which give a good idea of what each part of the country has to offer in terms of landscape and other things of interest.
Hi all, so I was planning to head from Cluj to Sighetu (via train or bus) and then I think establish myself in the latter to see the villages of Maramures. But now I'm worried as I don't have a license and it seems public transport is not the best option to get around. I really, really would hate to miss seeing these hamlets as they are a key part of my itinerary. But do I have no choice? Could I hire a driver from Sighetu or will that be astronomically expensive? My sense from the LP guidebook…
