Equipment Required
Bike helmet, wet weather gear, sunscreen, jogging shoes and sun hat. Note that storage capacity is limited in cabins and we recommend you bring a soft luggage bag. A comprehensive gear list is included in the pre-departure information provided on booking. *For safety reasons, we insist that cycle helmets be included as a compulsory item on your equipment list.

Discover the stunning beauty of Europe's last natural paradise while staying on board a comfortable barge. This tour meanders through the Danube Delta to where the mighty Danube River empties into the Black Sea. The Delta Danube in Romania is the second largest and best preserved of Europe's deltas. You will travel along canals with floating reed islands, lagoons and lakes. The landscape alternates between gently rolling hills and swamp and prairie land. You will be amazed by the diversity and beauty of the area. Life in small fishing villages is tranquil and this tour gives you the chance to experience the solitude and silence. Under expert guidance you will discover the fauna and flora of this landscape which is also rich in history. Enjoy the Romanian hospitality and cuisine on board your floating hotel and in a cosy guesthouse in Tulcea.

Day 1 Arrive in Bucharest, group transfer to Tulcea
Make your own way to Bucharest. There will be a group bus transfer from Bucharest airport at 2pm. You will be transferred to Tulcea in the Danube Delta where you will board the barge. The transfer will take approximately 4 hours.
Day 2 Cycle to Murighiol, then by boat to Sfantu Gheorge (30km)
A classic cycle today along the most southern Danube arm through the nature reserve Bestepe Hills. The wonderful view into the Delta will make you forget about the hills. At the small fishing village Murighiol you will re-board the boat and sail into a maze of channels, floating islands and dense forests for a pure wilderness experience. Overnight in Sfantu Gheorge.
Day 3 Cycle to "Mile 0" where the Danube River meets the Black Sea (20km)
A gravel path takes us to "Mile 0" where the Danube River meets the Black Sea. As you cycle the Black Sea will be on your right, and the lush green reeds and marsh land will be on your left. In the solitude of the Danube Delta cormorants and great white egrets will be our permanent companions. The journey of this mighty river ends at "Mile 0" in Sulina where the Danube reaches the lighthouse and starts to meld with the salt of the sea.
Day 4 Cycle in the Gulf of Musura to Letea and then by boat to Crisan (20km)
A highlight today is the bird's paradise of Mursara Bay and the picturesque village of Letea. Time seems to stand still in Letea. The houses are made of reed and loam, and are painted a lovely blue. Near the village and located on a sandbank, a special wonder of nature can be seen - a tropical forest with climbing plants and lianas. The boat will bring us to the fishing village of Crisan where will we stay overnight.
Day 5 Rest day in the delta, boat to Tulcea
A day off cycling todayas we relax on board, cruising through a labyrinth of narrow waterways. Along the way we will pass by small fishing villages and experience the incredible diversity of the flora and fauna of the UNESCO World Heritage Danube Delta. In the afternoon we return from a surreal dream world to the vibrant town of Tulcea.
Day 6 Round cycle through the gently rolling hills to the Abbey of Dobrogea (27/34km)
The cycling terrain takes us over rolling hills to the Orthodox nunnery, Celic Dere, the biggest convent in the Dobrogea territory. The abbey of Saon with its distinctive windmill is located amidst vineyards on the banks of the Danube. There is a chance to admire the view over the extensive green floodplain directly on the border of the Ukraine. Transfer back to Tulcea. Tonight is your first night in a cosy guesthouse in Tulcea.
Day 7 Bus to Babadag, cycle to the medieval fortress of Enisala and Cape Dolosman (30/45km)
This morning we will go by bus to the old, Turkish village of Babadag. By bike we will pass nesting sites of bee-eater colonies on the way to the medieval fortress of Enisala. The fortress is located high over the Danube with a breathtaking view over the Lagoon Razim. The nature reserve of Cape Dolosman with the Greek-Roman excavations of Argamum separates the Delta Lakes Golovita and Razim. Tonight you will stay again in the guesthouse in Tulcea.
Day 8 Trip concludes with return transfer from Tulcea to Bucharest
After breakfast there is a group transfer back to the capital, Bucharest. We will arrive in Bucharest at approximately 2pm. Trip concludes.
