  2. Finding More than Dracula in Romania

    Blog: Nomadic Matt's Travel Site - 23 August 2011

As I wandered around Sighisoara, searching for coffins, bats, vampires and human blood, I realized Romania wasn’t going to give me what I wanted – lots of cheesy Dracula tourism. I had been to Bran, Transylvania, and Bucharest and so far had encountered nothing about vampires. It was odd. The Romanians just haven’t decided to [...]

  9. Why Bucharest was known as “Little Paris”

    Blog: PocketCultures - 5 July 2010

For a city that last year celebrated its 550th year of existence, Bucharest still looks in good shape! And has a lot to offer both to its inhabitants and visitors. If I had to recommend someone with little spare time what to visit in Bucharest to feel the “flavour” of the city, these are my favourite places, with beautiful architecture, which reminds us that it was once called “Little Paris” : The City Centre

Blog: Send The Bugger Back - 26 September 2009

I think I’m going to stay 2 nights extra than planned here and then head to Istanbul on Tuesday night rather than Sunday. The main reason being is that I’m ruddy knackered and need somewhere nice to recuperate and this place fits the bill. Last night I went to bed at 1 but didn’t get [...]

Right, I’m just off to the train station to make my way to Veliko Tarnovo. While walking there I went past a large garden gate and was taken aback by a huge bang like a sledge hammer bashing into it, followed by an almighty roar and a large paw protruding under it. I had a [...]

After yesterday’s wastefulness, when I awoke from my deep slumber today at 08:00 (with the gentle persuasion of Jonathan Richman and The Modern Lover’s ‘Morning of our Lives’ as an alarm) I was ill prepared for getting the bus to Bucharest at 10:00 am. 18. Museum of the Romanian Peasant in Bucharest

    Blog: Atlas Parasite - 19 August 2009

In a previous post, I mentioned that if you visit Romania, you should definitely reserve enough time to get out of Bucharest and visit the “real” Romania, in the country and smaller cities, towns, and villages.
