Museum of the Romanian Peasant information
One of the best museums in Bucharest is this collection of traditional peasant bric-a-brac, costumes, icons, artwork and partially restored houses and churches. There’s not much English signage, but little cards in English posted at each room’s entrance give a flavour of what’s on offer. An 18th-century Transylvanian church is in the back lot, as is a gift shop.
Don’t miss the jarring communism exhibition downstairs, which focuses on the Ceauşescu-era program of land collectivisation, which almost completely destroyed the traditional way of life.
