Teppanyaki Restaurants

  1. A

    Samurai

Off the lobby of the Bessborough, this Japanese restaurant is pretty cool. The dark and moody interior has horseshoe-shaped tables around the grills. This is dining teppanyaki style, where the meal is cooked right before your eyes; always a fun way to eat, but if you're not in the mood it also has a small sushi bar in the corner.

    Irori

Enjoy the show as the chef slices and dices the night away at this Japanese-run restaurant serving sushi and many other Japanese favorites in an intimate and nicely decorated setting. There’s even a kids menu if you’ve got sushi-scoffing rugrats in tow.

    Kintaro

Longtime local-fave Kintaro is always packed. No wonder: from thick-cut slices of sashimi to a shrimp-fish-veg tempura combination, mains shine in quality and quantity. The owner is Korean, but the cuisine is authentic Japanese. A specialty is sizzling, crowd-wowing teppanyaki, when chefs show their stuff tableside on steel grills.

    Miyako Restaurant

Luxor's only Japanese restaurant serves rather mediocre Japanese food, but it is still a welcome change from kebabs and stews. You can either sit in the cool and peaceful tatami room or watch the chef's stunts, including the throwing of knives, while preparing the teppanyaki at your table.

  5. Horetaro

Okonomiyaki and monjayaki (Osaka and Tokyo style savoury pancakes respectively) are the thing here, along with fried rice and other dishes you grill yourself on a teppan (steel plate) at the table. All-you-can-eat-and-drink sets including alcoholic drinks are ¥3150 for 2½ hours.

    OKA

This swish, authentic Japanese restaurant serves up delectable sushi and teppanyaki. The hostess, Ms JoJo Phang, is a bit of a personality - she says she can arrange on-site bachelor parties, ironing out all the details in a 'private talk tailored to that evening's party boy'.

    Teppanyaki Dan

Chefs let the knives fly as they cook traditional teppanyaki meals right at your table. The only difference from dining in Tokyo is that here the ingredients are fresh Hawaiian. Choose from seafood options, like Kona lobster or hibachi butterfly fish, or go for the juicy steak.

    Kampai

Apart from some atrocious music selections, this is a surprisingly good Japanese restaurant. All your faves are here - sashimi, teppanyaki, tempura, plus a range of 'novelty rolls' - California rolls shaped like cars, scorpions, etc.

Fresh, delicious Japanese noodles, teppanyaki, sushi and sashimi are made to order in this friendly Japanese restaurant. Prices are at the high end but worth it for the quality of the food.

  13. Sanrokuen

Here diners sit on the floor around traditional irori charcoal pits grilling their own meals – skewers of choice fish, meat, tofu and vegies. There's a picture menu. From Kawaguchi-ko Station, turn left, left again after the 7-Eleven and after 600m you'll see the thatched roof on the right.

  14. Ichizen

The teppanyaki, sushi and sashimi are expertly prepared, and artfully arrayed on the plate. A delicious lunchtime bento box is also available.
