Howard Johnson Downtown Mayaguez
Lonely Planet review
The stained-glass windows in this freshly remodeled central hotel are left over from the building’s history as a monastery, a fact also evident in the smallish rooms and somber heavy wooden doors. Some rooms, with a bit more space and brightly colored bedspreads, are geared toward families, though most of them are oriented toward business travelers, with desks, mini-refrigerators and flat-screen televisions. It has a bit of a corporate feel, but there are perks in the small courtyard pool and absolutely enormous collection of bottles at the on-site tapas bar, Stoa’s. For discounts, book online.
