Centro Interpretativos Las Salinas de Cabo Rojo
Centro Interpretativos Las Salinas de Cabo Rojo information
A small center further south along Hwy 301 toward the lighthouse explains the geology and ecology of the salt pans. It is staffed by knowledgeable ecosensitive guides who give thorough explanations of local flora and fauna. Across the road is a three-story wooden lookout tower that offers a bird’s-eye view of the salt pans, a major bird migratory corridor. There is also a small network of hiking and mountain- biking trails here (though no place to rent a bike), which lead to a stretch of very long beach on the island’s west side. This is not perfect sand – much of it is dotted with mangrove forest – but it is excellent for private swimming.
