Lonely Planet review for St Germain Bistro & Café

Kudos to the chef for transforming the main course salads – so often the dullest dish on the menu – into something fresh, tasty and filling. Then there’s the aromatic Puerto Rican coffee, the delicious paninis and the homemade cakes which can only be described as melt-in-your-mouth heavenly. Nestled on the corner of Sol and Cruz, the St Germain is a bright neighborhood place with down-to-earth service, interesting clientele and a distinct European feel. Perfect for breakfast, lunch or a light dinner.

Great place for fresh meal served by delightful people.

My and wife and I stopped in here on our first day in San Juan for a light lunch. She had a salad of the day with shrimp and delicious mixed greens. I had a panini sandwich with regional ham and a fresh fruit chutney. We enjoyed it so much that we came back the next morning for breakfast. Our server recognized us the following morning and we had a pleasant discussion about things to do on the island. I appreciated that he didn't mention the fresh scratch marks that etched my face. I fell asleep the prior afternoon - apparently at the mouth of an iguana burrow. Iguanas don't have claws, they have talons. And they are VERY territorial. The topical ointment worked wonders. Hardly any scarring. Good breakfast too!

    Crisp, Fresh, Delicious

    priscilasotomayor recommends this,

What caught my attention about this charming bistro is that even from the busy street outside you can see inside the restaurant and feel the relaxing atmosphere. Their menu has interesting and mouth watering salads, colorful appetizers and creative sandwiches . My favorite "The Arabian" (an ingenious combination of pesto chicken, cherry tomatoes and humus on a crispy pita bread with their house salad on the side and signature balsamic oil dressing). Who would have thought that this simple bistro could be so Crisp, Fresh and Delicious.

Finally, a place in Old San Juan with delicious salads! First time visitor, the Nicoise Salad was great-prob going for the Salmon next time. LOVE the decor-so typical and classic.
