Lonely Planet review for Dinghy Dock

If you can brave the gauntlet of cigarette-smoking expats that requisition the steps nightly, you’ll find the DD to be something of a culinary revelation. Unusually for Puerto Rico, there’s an all-you-can-eat salad bar to quell your early hunger pangs, and you can chomp on your lettuce and cucumber while watching the kitchen staff throw morsels of food to the giant tarpon that swim right up to the deck. Fish is the obvious specialty here – fresh catches such as swordfish and snapper done in creole sauces. The busy bar is a frenzy of expats nursing Medalla beers and acts as the unofficial island grapevine. If you haven’t heard it here first, it’s not worth hearing.

Best "jumping off" point on the Island.

    GilaMonsterAZ recommends this,

We've been coming to Culebra for several years, and always look forward to cracking open that first ice-cold Medalla on the deck. Followed usually by too much Don Q, and great food (best fresh fish on the island!). Great atmosphere, friendly staff and always colorful characters (if I were a novelist, I would never leave the bar). Can't wait to get back (three weeks...!).

I've been there twice! The food is good, the view is good. You could also see the big tarpons waiting for food. I just like this place!

Most people like the gauntlet...which certainly isn't all the time, we have to work too, you know! We serve as a welcoming committee of sorts...and while I agree with your review for the most part, I have to say 'frenzy' is not a word I'd associate with the ex-pat community here. There are a LOT of locals who go to Dinghy Dock for the bar and the food as well. Owned and operated by a local, Dingy Dock draws those who enjoy a casual place with a great bar, great food and a great view.
