Lonely Planet launch online city guides

MARCH 28, 2003
Lonely Planet has teamed up with the f2 network to produce a range of city guides with a difference.

Designed for travellers who are short on time, Lonely Planet's Briefcase Guides are PDF versions of city guidebooks - concise yet comprehensive online travel guides to a range of key cities for Australian travellers.

At only 2MB, each Briefcase Guide is simple to download and captures essential city information in a practical and easy-to-use format making them ideal for people who need to travel at short notice. While the guides are less than half the price of printed city guides, they don't scrimp on content, including travel tips, maps, recommendations and reviews.

What's more, the Briefcase Guides are the most up-to-date city guides money can buy! Unlike printed books that can often take several months from initial author research to hitting the shop floor.

At only $9.90, the Briefcase Guides break new ground in digital publishing. "There are very few products of this type available anywhere in the world" said Lonely Planet's Business Development Manager, Jeff Trounce. "Lonely Planet is continually setting new benchmarks in product development, and we're keen to serve our readers and users in whatever format works best for them. This increasingly means web-based and mobile technologies".

The Briefcase Guides have just launched on the f2 website. Available cities so far include Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Brisbane, Auckland, Singapore, Hong Kong, Paris, Rome and New York, with plans to roll out more cities soon. Guides are available for viewing and download from www.smh.com.au/travel, www.theage.com.au/travel and www.lonelyplanet.com.
