Lonely Planet's World Food series - 'best in the world'

FEBRUARY, 2003 | MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA
Lonely Planet's World Food series has been declared Best Food Book Series in the World at the international Gourmand World Cookbook Awards held in France on 28 February 2003.

The World Food series has won this award against all world languages and markets. Event President and founder, Edouard Cointreau, described World Food guides as 'packed with accurate and up-to-date information.' He added that they are 'interesting and fun reading.' The Gourmand World Food Cookbook Awards are considered to be the 'Oscars' of food and wine publishing.

Since hitting the market in mid 2000, the World Food series has received critical praise. World Food New Orleans won a Silver Ladle Award, Jacob's Creek Best Soft Cover Food Book, at the 2001 Jacob's Creek World Food Media Awards. World Food Turkey received a runner up award at the Andre Simon Memorial Fund 2000 Book Awards. The World Food series (Spain, New Orleans, Thailand and Vietnam) achieved Third Place in the ForeWord Magazine Book of the Year Award (2001).

Designed for people who live to eat, drink and travel, the pocket-sized World Food guides are appetising condiments for travellers or can be used at home as an inspirational reference guide bringing the experience of far-away-food into the food lover's own kitchen.

The World Food series now includes 18 mouthwatering titles, covering gourmet locations such as Thailand, Spain, Vietnam, Ireland, Italy, Morocco, Mexico, Turkey, France, India, Caribbean, Hong Kong, New Orleans, Japan, Indonesia, Greece, Portugal, Malaysia & Singapore.

The Gourmand World Food Cookbook Awards were created by Edouard Cointreau in 1995 at the Frankfurt Book Fair. In 2002, over 3500 books from 60 countries entered the competition.
