Trekking in Nepal Himalaya and Hiking in the Sierra Nevada Receive High Accolades

NOVEMBER, 2002 | MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA
Lonely Planet's comprehensive Walking guides offer unparalleled excellence as confirmed by two prestigious award wins for the series.

It was announced recently that Hiking in the Sierra Nevada by John Mock and Kimberley O'Neil won the 2002 National Outdoor Book Award (NOBA) for Adventure Guidebooks. The award for Hiking in the Sierra Nevada is a real coup for Lonely Planet. The announcement was made at the International Conference on Outdoor Recreation and Education held in Charleston, SC, America.

In April 2002, the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) honoured author of Lonely Planet's Trekking in the Nepal Himalaya, Stan Armington, with the 2002 PATA Gold Award in the Travel Guidebook category for his efforts on the eighth edition of this classic guidebook. The PATA Gold Awards recognises exceptional achievement in the region's travel industry. The winning projects set industry standards in excellence and innovation.

Stan Armington received this prestigious award on 15 April 2002 during a special luncheon at the 51st PATA Annual Conference in New Delhi, India.

Lonely Planet's Specialist Series Publishing Manager, Outdoor Activities, Lindsey Brown acknowledges that knowing the readers and the subject were intrinsic to both wins.

"It was a real team effort with (the editorial team) pulling in the same direction and adding their own expertise to the book" he said.

Hiking in the Sierra Nevada is the perfect companion guide for exploring the region's world-renowned national Parks. Featuring the best day hikes, weekend walks and long-distance treks, this inspiring guide puts readers on the trail to adventure. With Lonely Planet's Trekking in the Nepal Himalaya guide in-hand, trekkers can rest assured that they will get the most out of their visit to the Nepal Himalaya. The guide is a proven resource among both the trekking fraternity and first-timers alike and captures the essence of exploring this breathtaking region.
