Wanderlust Travel Awards 2003

Lonely Planet has been voted the Top Guidebook Series by Wanderlust readers

‘The mighty Lonely Planet was not only the most-used guidebook series, but also scored the highest by quite a margin.’

The Wanderlust travel awards are regarded as the UK’s most authoritative travel survey due to the magazine’s well-travelled readers.

Lonely Planet’s website www.lonelyplanet.com also came third in the Top Travel Website category, an accolade that they won in 2001.  Other winners included – New Zealand (Top Country), Singapore Airlines (Top Major Airline), Virgin Blue (Top Low-Cost Airline) and Sahara (Top Travel TV Programme).

The survey was based on travels from January 2002 to August 2003.  There were 1,400 responses and collectively readers had visited 185 countries, 557 cities, travelled on 329 airlines and used 546 tour operators.

The award ceremony was held at the Imagination Gallery, London.
