Lonely Planet has won two awards at the prestigious 2001 Jacob’s Creek World Food Media Awards announced on Saturday, 13 October 2001 at the Tasting Australia

Out to Eat Sydney 2001 won the pre-eminent award for Jacob’s Creek Best Food and /or Wine Guide Book. Written by Kath Kenny in collaboration with Lonely Planet’s talented Out to Eat team, this colourful guide profiles over 400 places to eat and drink in the Olympic city.

Lonely Planet’s World Food New Orleans by Pableaux Johnson won the Silver Ladle award for Jacob’s Creek Best Soft Cover Food Book.

Out to Eat Sydney 2001 and World Food New Orleans were among seven gold, ten silver and five bronze award winners from a total of 62 Australian nominees in a field of 600 entries from around the globe.

Publishing Manager of World Food and Out to Eat, Peter D’Onghia, said these awards were testimony to the great work being done by all the authors, photographers, editors and designers in Lonely Planet Food’s publishing division.

Out to Eat Sydney 2001 scooped the pool in the face of some tough, global competition. This award is a real credit to the Out to Eat team who bring in-depth cuisine knowledge, restaurant industry experience and intimacy with Sydney to each review,’ he said.

World Food New Orleans is a shining example of Lonely Planet’s approach to food writing, combining creole, cajun and soul in a comprehensive guide to the cuisines of America’s Deep South. The 13 part World Food series boasts evocative imagery, maps, recipes plus culinary and cultural insights in a pocket-sized format – it’s one of a kind,’ he added.

The bi-annual Jacob’s Creek World Food Media Awards are the foremost international competition of their kind. The awards recognise contributions in a wide range of food and wine publishing and broadcasting.
