Igreja da Misericórdia information
Discreetly hidden behind a wrought-iron grille, you’ll find the rococo facade of this 16th-century church designed by the Italian baroque architect Nicolau Nasoni. The interior is adorned with beautiful blue and white azulejos (hand-painted tiles). Closed at the time of research for renovation, the church museum boasts a superb Renaissance painting, Fons Vitae (Fountain of Life).
The painting depicts Dom Manuel I and his family around a fountain of blood from the crucified Christ.
