This cosy blue-and-white–tiled restaurant specialises in the earthy, aromatic cuisine of the mountainous Beira Alta. Suckling pig and seafood cataplana (stew) pair well with Portuguese wines.

    Never been in a so awfull restaurant

    We had dinner at Fumeiro last week, going there because of nice comment on LP, but it was like a nightmare.

    We arrived at 8.30 pm while restaurant was still empty (later it would have been clear why). We ordered tapas, thinking that it woulld have been enoght for dinner since the price was 25euro, but actually was just some ham, cheese and chorizo, noting more than an appetizer. So, still hungry, we ordered some more food, that it arrived after more than 1 hour, even if in the restaurant we were no more than 10 person (no protoguese there of course). I would say they wait for everybody ordering and than cook. As soon as the person supposed to be the chef started cooking, the restaurant became full of smoke, so I understood why the name of the place (fumeiro means mainly smoke).

    After two hours with clothes bad smelling, no more hungry but quite hangry for bad food, bad service, I asked for bill. 25euro for tapas, 4 euro for 2 beers, 10 euro for meet, total 41. When I asked why not 39, they told me there was a mistake. I payed with credit card, but one more mistake, they typed 49 on pinpad instead of 39!

    Looking at LP site, I found bad review since 2005, so, really wondering why on the guide we bought two weeks ago (2007 edition), it's still there. Usually I'm appreciating a lot LP suggestions, but I think this is really a big mistake.
