Lonely Planet review for Cafe Blikle

The mere fact that Blikle has survived two world wars and the pressure of communism makes it a household name. But what makes this legendary café truly famous is its donuts, for which people have been queuing up for generations. Join the back of the line and find out why.

    Cafe Blikle

    jeanne08 recommends this,

I ate at Cafe Blikle in October, 2008 and was amazed this restaurant never appeared on my radar in 8 trips to Poland. The wait staff, the ambience, the food were all perfect. No upscale restaurant in the U.S.can match the gentle service found at this cafe. The manager made regular rounds and was truly interested in each diner's experience. Many people were outside enjoying an ice cream or other desserts, a treat even budget trevellers can enjoy. They serve breakfast all day and the choices extend from an authentic British breakfast to a hearty continental one of pastry, coffee/tea and fruit. I had a classic Polish meal of pork, potatoes and salad which was tender, flavorful and delicious.
When I was there I smoked and the server exchanged my ashtrray after every cigarette. I will miss that little interaction now that I quit.
The review in Lonely Planet extolled the virtues of their doughnuts, available next door at their pastry shop. Unfortunately, the doughnuts were nothing like those we love in the States so I was most disappointed. I did find great U.S. style doughnuts in little shops along the street. Well worth browsing is their pastry shop, pure eye candy from the chocolates to the soccer ball shaped cakes.
I will return to this Cafe again and again, now that this address is ** in my Lonely Plant guide.
